The quarterback I call the “The Perfect Backup”, is a quarterback I will forever be grateful for and will truly respect no matter how downhill his career can get. This quarterback, has had a up and down career so far, but he has something under his belt no a lot of other quarterbacks can say they have. The quarterback I am referring too is a man named Nick Foles, and he is the man that led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Superbowl Victory past Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
Nick Foles played college football at the college of Arizona. He was then drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 3rd round with the 88th pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Nick Foles would play for 5 teams throughout his career so far. He played for the Eagles, St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, then go back to the Eagles, this last season played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and this off season just got traded to the Chicago Bears. So, you could say at this point of his career he is a Journeyman quarterback that has had on and off starting positions on the different teams. Nick Foles However, his most successful seasons are when he is not the starting quarterback at the beginning of the season with the Philadelphia Eagles. This would be his second run with the Eagles with a new Coach Doug Peterson. The Eagles would start the season hot and end the season with a 13-3 winning record. However, most of that success was due to their young quarterback Carson Wentz, but towards the end of the season Carson Wentz got tore his ACL. This would leave Wentz injured for the remainder of the season. With that Nick Foles would take over with three games left in the season. He would go on to win two of the last three games. Then, he would have to start for them in the playoffs. The Eagles were a top seed so they had a week off in the playoffs. They would then face the Atlanta Falcons in a close game, but they would win the game with a score of 15 to 10. This was Nick Foles just getting the Eagles in Field goal range, close enough for a rushing touchdown, and the Eagles defense almost shutting down the Falcons. The Eagles would go on to face the Vikings where Foles pops off and throws for 3 passing touchdowns and 352 passing yards. Then it was on to the Superbowl where Nick Foles probably had the best game of his career where he passed for 373 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and even caught a pass that resulted in a one-yard touchdown. The Eagles defense wasn’t doing their job for most of the game so it was needed for Foles to play the way he did. The game ended with the score of 41 to 33 with the Eagles on top. The next season would play out the same, but wouldn’t end as good. Wentz would get injured again, but Foles would lead the Eagles into the playoffs and even to a playoff win over the Chicago Bears. However, they would lose to the New Orleans Saints in the next round. It would not be Foles fault it either, the game came down to a receiver dropping a pass from Foles that would have gotten them more of a chance at coming back at the end.
Nick Foles this last season would be signed by the Jaguars to start, but unfortunately break his collarbone, leaving him out for most of the season, and basically being replaced in the rookie who showed promise while he was injured. Foles would then get traded to the bears, I believe he will start this season with the bears and have a decent year although he is in a tough division and an iffy head coach. Foles may not be the best starting quarterback from here on now, but he does have a Superbowl over the quote on quote greatest of all time Tom Brady.
