The Sheriff

The quarterback I am speaking of when I say the Sheriff of the NFL, is Peyton Manning. He is the older brother of Eli Manning and easily the better quarterback of the two. I like to think that Eli Manning did not play on the Chargers, because there was a higher probability, he would have to face Peyton due to the Chargers and Colts being in the same conference. Peyton Manning played for only two teams, he played for the Indianapolis Colts where I loved and viewed him as my favorite player for a bit, and he played for the Denver Broncos where I despised him and wished evil things on him. The Denver Broncos are one of the Chargers’ rivals and they play twice in a season, so usually when Peyton would face of against my Chargers while with Denver, he would win. Ironically, when Peyton was with the Colts, the Chargers with Philip Rivers would usually beat them. Either way I always respected him and thought he was one of the smartest, loyalist, and competitive quarterbacks to play the game.

Peyton Manning went to college at Tennessee, and then drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1998 draft with the 1st overall pick in the first round. He would go on to win two Superbowl rings in his career, but would play in 4 Superbowl’s in total. He would win one with the Colts and the broncos, but he would also lose a Superbowl with the Colts and Broncos. To be fair, the Superbowl he lost with the Colts was probably my favorite Superbowl so far, where the Peyton’s Colts faced Drew’s Saints. Aside from that, Peyton Manning has accomplished many other things like having 186 wins and having 79 losses in his 17-year career. He basically has double the wins when compared to his losses. Peyton has also been the league’s Most Valuable Player five times with being picked for the pro bowl 14 times in his career. One of the main reasons for his success is the ability to read defenses almost every play. He would then change the play on the offense to best counter what he thought the defense was going to do. This is called making an audible, which is a privilege more experienced quarterbacks get to use. Peyton was probably the best at this especially later in his career, combine that with him probably being one of the most accurate passers in the NFL in his prime, he was just a perfect quarterback. One drawback was that he was not very mobile, but he usually had the football out of his quick or he had a great offensive line to protect him. This allowed for 71940 career passing yards, 65 completion percentage, 539 touchdowns (3rd in the all-time list), and 251 interceptions (which is less than half of his touchdowns which is great).

Peyton would have his very highs in his career, but also his lows. He was injured for a whole season due to him having surgery on his neck that would make it questionable that he would ever play again. This is why the Colts would let go of such a good quarterback, but he recovered and ended up winning another Superbowl with the Broncos. Peyton would wear the number 18 for both the Colts and Broncos which is my favorite number (not because of him), so it is forever an iconic number in the NFL. It was truly great watching him play that I did not appreciate at the time, he was basically a surgeon when he directed and picked apart the defense in his time. He retired after the 2015 season, but now doing plenty of commercials, training players, and just spending time with his family.
