The quarterback I nicknamed to be “The New Face of the NFL”, is the quarterback who just won the 2019-2020 Superbowl, that man is Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes went to college at Texas Tech and got drafted into the NFL by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1st round on the 10th pick of the 2017 draft. His rookie year he did not play much, he was the backup quarterback behind the Alex Smith lead Chiefs. Which is usually how a quarterback should start their career in the league as a back up to give them time to develop their skills further. However, his second year he become the starter after the Kansas City Chiefs decided to let go of Alex Smith and put all their faith in this young man. His first game as a starter he played my personal favorite team the Los Angeles (San Diego) Chargers, at the time I though it would be an easy win for my team, because our solid defense was up against a rookie quarterback basically. Boy was I wrong, Patty Mahomes ended up throwing for 284 pass yards, 4 touchdowns, completion percentage of 55 percent, zero interceptions (when a quarterback throws and gives the ball to the enemy team), and ran for 21 yards. Usually an average quarterback will throw for 2 touchdowns, with 200 passing yards, with about 1 interception, while trying to have his completion percentage above 50 percent on each given game. So, he definitely exceeded that average on his first game. The Kansas City Chiefs ended up winning that game by outscoring my Chargers 38 to 28. Now, at the time I was shocked, but I just thought it was beginners’ luck and he wouldn’t play up to that level consistently for long. Again, I was wrong, Mahomes would end up passing for 5097 passing yards, 50 touchdowns, 12 interceptions (the lower the better), 66 completion percentage, ran for 272 yards, and having his team reach the playoffs with 12 wins and 4 losses. He would eventually lose in the playoffs to the New England Patriots in the AFC Conference Championship (the game just before the Superbowl), which was out of his control due to referees interfering in the game too much and the him not getting a chance to play in overtime due to the overtime rules. However, Mahomes would win the leagues most prized award for an individual player which is the “Most Valuable Player award”. All that in his fist year as a starter. To be fair, he has an all-star team around him to support him in these games, with a veteran coach named Andy Reid that basically put this team together. Then the next year, Patrick Mahomes would finish the year with slightly worse stats than his previous but, he would lead his team to the Superbowl and win it. He would win the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player which is fair, because he was the main reason the Chiefs were there in the first place by having to do multiple comebacks in games in the play offs, including the Superbowl. The reason he his able to do this is because he can avoid being tackled with his legs by running, he can throw the ball accurately while running, he has a canon for an arm which means he can throw the football very far, he can do no look passes which means he throws the ball to his receivers without looking at them, and overall he is just a very smart player who can trick the defenses with his eyes and knowing the playbook. Patrick Mahomes will probably continue to be on his rein of terror for years to come since he is still young, the team around him is fairly young, and him and coach Reid see eye to eye. Personally, I kind of hate him since he is too perfect and he plays for the Chargers rival so I will always root against him.
